When I decided to make running another 5k one of my goals for 2012, I certainly didn’t plan on checking that one off soon. For some reason I got this crazy idea in my head one night to just sign up for one a month and a half away. I figured 6 weeks would be plenty of time to get my endurance up since I had already been running again for about a month. You see, just finishing another race wasn’t enough. I wanted to beat my last time. I knew this would be a challenge since a. the last one was in July and this race was in March and b. the last race was 2 years and 1 baby ago. Luckily my awesome Dad wanted to run with me again (we ran the last one together) so I knew I had someone to run with.

This morning at 9:00 AM I was on my way! It was cold, snowing decently hard, and I was still injured (runner’s knee) but dang it, I wasn’t going to give up. Long story short I finished in just under 33 minutes which was pretty close to my PR (32:18). I like to think that I did actually beat my goal though, because according to my Nike+ trainer the race was actually 5.2 k 🙂 Suprisingly I really enjoyed the run. It was around a beautiful lake in Minneapolis (although it was snowing pretty hard and my eyes were constantly tearing up so I couldn’t fully enjoy the beauty), the money went to a great cause (Special Olympics), and the t-shirts we got were super sweet, moisture wicking, awesome training shirts.
I am already signed up for another race in July so I will have another chance to beat my time without the cold squeezing the air out of my asthmatic lungs (I sure am broken, aren’t I?)
Did you happen to notice the headband I wore? I crocheted it last night just to wear for race day 🙂 I’m such a nerd.
