Toddler blueberry and spinach puree recipe for snack pouches

Blueberry and spinach toddler snack puree recipe

I used to be one of “those moms” buying all of the fresh produce in the world so that I could puree and homemake all of Bean’s baby food. Homemake, is that a word? It looks so weird once it’s typed out. Anywho, that mom has surfaced again with the introduction of toddler puree snack pouches. I have purchased a few from the store, but the frugal queen in me knows that I can and should make them myself. Off to Amazon I went to buy my own reusable pouches.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups tightly packed spinach/kale mixture (could use just spinach, but I had this mix at home already)
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 2 apples (fuji, in my case)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • reusable food pouches (we’re giving Yummi pouches a try)

Put the apples, skinned and chopped, into a sauce pan with the cup of frozen blueberries and 1/4 cup water. Bring to a low boil and then simmer for 8-10 minutes until the apples are soft.

Remove from heat and add the spinach/kale mixture. Stir for about 3 minutes until the spinach/kale is soft.

Blend together until smooth. I used my immersion blender because I love how I can control the blending by hand. I’ve tried my Magic Bullet, but it always seems that the bottom gets all nice and blended and the big chunks stay stuck on the top. Maybe I’m using it wrong, but my immersion blender has never failed me. The consistency of this was perfect for me, but if it seems too thick, add a little more water.

Bean has given this recipe her approval. She was a little confused with the first taste because she expected applesauce, but after the first slurp settled it was, “More! More!”
