Healthy mommy, healthy child, healthy home

 

“If Mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.” You know what’s also true? “If Mama ain’t healthy, ain’t nobody healthy.” Us mothers have more power than we realize. Who does the grocery shopping? Who makes the meals? Who keeps the kids moving? Who keeps the family schedule humming? Chances are, it’s Mom. That’s how it is in our family, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Yes, hello, I can be a bit of a control freak. Health is incredibly important to me. My healthy home is my constant goal.

The area that I tend to fall short in is my own health. My own mental health, to be exact. In typical mommy fashion, I put everyone else before myself. When Bean was just a few months old I was starting to feel like I was losing myself and my identity. I started making a conscious effort to take time out for myself. It was great, for awhile. With the introduction of the toddler years I find myself yet again losing “me”. I have decided it’s time I get “me” back, it’s time for a mommy “mental detox”. I’m now making a conscious effort to remove the toxins from my life.

To the non-parent, it may sound ridiculous to have showering as a favorite mental detox activity. I have always been very comfortable spending time alone, it’s the best way for me to recharge my batteries. Now that I’m a mommy, showering is one of the only times I get to be alone during the day. I get to totally tune out and be alone with my thoughts. It’s glorious.

Being the former hairstylist that I am, safe, quality hair and body products are very important to me. I’m falling in love with Ology, available exclusively at Walgreens.
