Preschool Water Color Mixing Experiment

We had outdoor educational fun during our color mixing experiment with Banana Boat as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #BestSummerEver

While observing Bean playing in the sprinkler last week, I realized that the majority of the time she wasn’t using the sprinkler for what you would typically think. I found her spending most of her time filling up various cups and buckets and pouring them into each other. She was so focused and having so much fun doing something us adults wouldn’t technically consider “entertaining”. And then, LIGHT BULB!

I thought I could combine this entertaining activity with education by adding color to the mix! With just a few simple supplies you can have your own water color mixing experiment fun with your preschooler…

We used this as an opportunity to teach how primary colors combine to make secondary colors. Of course we had to guide Bean and tell her which colors to mix, but her various “Ooo!”s and “Ah!”s let us know how cool she thought this little outdoor experiment was.

And in typical 3 year old fashion, she ended up combining them all to create various shades of puke brown. My OCD side was freaking out a bit, but hey, at least she was having a blast 😉
