Spontaneous Road Trips are the BEST

Tracking PixelI was inspired to take my family on a spontaneous summer road trip thanks to Caribou Coffee. All opinions are my own.

There are lots of awesome things about living in Minnesota, particularly in the summer. We are the land of 10,000 lakes, after all. Normally during summer weekends, and especially after buying our dearest “Gilly”, we’re spending time up north at our family cabin and out on the lake.

For us to stick around for a weekend with no plans is unheard of. But after the busy summer that we’ve had so far with my brother getting married, 4th of July festivities, lots of weekends up at the family cabin, and another wedding in the family, staying home for the weekend sounded spectacular. Of course, we couldn’t just sit at home the ENTIRE weekend.

I somehow talked my husband into taking a spontaneous road trip to the coolest place in all of Minnesota. Ok, ONE of the coolest places in all of Minnesota: the Franconia Sculpture Park.

Our trip absolutely had to start with a stop at Caribou Coffee for my new favorite drink: a vanilla Crafted Press.

That, and one of their mini donut muffins, because Bean HAD to have one. Shhh… I might have gotten one for myself as well 😉

After a little over an hour on the road (more so because summer=road construction season in Minnesota), we arrived. I had seen my fair share of sculpture parks in the past, it’s practically a right of passage in Minnesota to take a school field trip to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden to see the Spoonbridge and Cherry. But this sculpture park takes the cake.

Not only are the sculptures fantastically odd and unique, they offer plenty of (safe) opportunities for kids to play and climb.

I wish that we lived even closer because a lot of the sculptures light up in the dark.

Can you imagine driving down the highway and unexpectedly seeing THAT thing lit up in the middle of a field? How creepy and awesome would that be?

Though it was ungodly hot and humid, I was fully caffeinated and had the best time on our family #12HrAdventure!

I was a die-hard Northern Lite Iced Latte fan (which is also fantastically delicious) before they came out with this drink. Now I’ve got another beverage to add to the arsenal of premium cold drinks for my summer caffeinated needs 🙂 If you want to try a Crafted Press for yourself, and believe me you do, fill out this optional survey and receive one complimentary medium beverage. And because if you don’t Instagram your coffee, it never happened, so make sure you use the hashtag #12HrAdventure to share what sort of adventures you take with your Crafted Press! The hashtag comes from the fact that Caribou Coffee takes 12 hours to cold steep their coffee, how cool is that?
