Back to School, Back to the Studio

I participated in an Ambassador Program on behalf of Influence Central for Panasonic. I received product samples as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation. #4KPhoto #4KFun

If I had to select the one decision that has most impacted Bean for the better, it is hands down deciding to send her to preschool at a young age. She’s one of those kids with an awkward birthday (August) so she’ll either be the youngest or the oldest in her grade, depending on when we send her to Kindergarten.

We decided to put Bean in preschool last year because of her separation anxiety and to get her socializing with more kids her age. She made huge progress in both areas, and going back to school this year was so different than the last.

We started the morning off with the usual favorite breakfast: oatmeal and pears. Bean’s a good sleeper, when it’s a school day I have to wake her up earlier than when she wakes up on her own. After a little Curious George, she’s bright eyed and bushy tailed (or should I say, bushy haired!)

Before we left, we had to do the traditional first day of school photo. She wasn’t in the mood to smile, so it was a good thing I was shooting in 4K with my LUMIX G7. I just went in using the touch-enabled monitor and pulled out the photo that she managed to crack a slight grin (right before yelling at me to be done).

First day of school drop-off this year went off without a hitch. No tears and no Cooper (well, she smuggled him in her backpack but never took him out). She even put her backpack in the cubby all by herself!

As long as Bean gets to start the day at her “happy place” (the art table) she’s all smiles. She does get a little nervous if the art table happens to be full. The last time that happened she walked me over to the blocks, sat down next to a couple other kids and said, “Bye, Mom!” My jaw just about hit the floor.

Back to school also means back to work for me. I brought my LUMIX G7 to Boot Camp (the first intense week of competition dance classes for the year) and snapped some awesome action shots of my dancers. It’s crazy how well the DFD focusing works, these girls were moving fast.

I have especially been having fun using the LUMIX G7 in the studio. I know when a particular skill is coming up in a routine so I: get ready, hold down the shutter in 4K Start/Stop mode (my favorite), then use the touch-enabled monitor to select the moment that looks the most awesome. The dancer above was finishing a front-walkover.

I’ve been having so much fun taking awesome action shots with this camera. After the awesome summer we had, I can’t wait to use it to capture some fantastic fall memories 🙂
