DIY Milk Jug Lunch Box

This DIY milk jug lunch box tutorial complete witJif™Bars is a sponsored post thanks to Socialstars #TeamJif

Confession: now that Bean is back to school, a lot of her lunches are on the go. She goes to preschool twice a week (which just so happen to be the two busiest workdays for me) from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

By the time I pick her up from school, it’s prime lunch time. I don’t exactly have the time to drive back home and make lunch after picking her up, so I usually bring it with and we have a picnic.

This is why I was SO EXCITED to hear about a trick: making a portable (and disposable, depending on how many times you want to use it) lunch box out of a milk jug! It’s the perfect size to fit Bean’s favorite lunch foods, including her newest favorite: Jif™ Bars Crunchy Peanut Butter.

Here’s how you can make your own…

You’ll need…

  • Clean milk (or water) jug
  • Sharp scissors
  • Velcro or foam tape (it was what I had on hand, it worked perfect!)

STEP ONE | Give your empty milk jug a good cleaning. You don’t want it smelling like sour milk, that’s for sure.

STEP TWO | Cut following the lines of the milk jug. I first cut off the handle, then cut around the jug horizontally from where the handle was, making sure to cut up one side of the jug leaving a lip at the top. This will fold over the top of the lunch box. To make the other folds, I cut a slit along the seams of the jug, and rounded the corners to where I had already cut horizontally.

STEP THREE | Fold the edges in, take the longest back side and fold it over top. Secure the front flap with velcro or foam tape. Looking back on it, I probably should have cut up along the side that didn’t have the expiration date printed on it. Live and learn!

STEP FOUR | Fill with your favorite school lunch foods. Don’t forget your Crunchy Peanut Butter Jif™ Bars. They’re perfect for school lunch boxes, and they’re made with everybody’s favorite peanut butter: Jif!

I’m thinking there’s so much potential to these milk jug containers. I might try jazzing them up with some scrapbooking paper and using them as a gift holder next!
