The Great Minnesota Get Together: Minnesota State Fair

Ah, the “Great Minnesota Get Together”. It’s known as the Biggest State Fair in the Country based on daily attendance, dontcha know 😉 We’re not ones that go every year traditionally (especially since we live an hour away), but we thoroughly enjoy taking a trip to the Minnesota State Fair every few years.
This was the first time that we have ever taken Bean, which added another element of fun! We decided to celebrate our last weekend before back to school and back to regularly scheduled programming with splurging on fried food and ogling gigantic farm animals (hello, 1,000 pound hog).
Even though it was quite possibly the hottest day of the fair, we managed to scarf down more food than we probably should have. Luckily, I had my #GoPhone water bottle with me, or I would have probably died. Seriously.
I also brought my ASUS Zenphone 2e GoPhone with me so I was able to take a bunch of cute photos and share with friends and family along the way. It’s amazing what sort of photos you can take on phones nowadays with some basic photo and editing knowledge. As usual, I always take WAY TOO MANY photos. But what’s a family outing if you don’t document the crap out of it, right?
Our first stop was at the AT&T GoPhone booth. We heard they had an awesome bag making station, and we HAD to make a backpack so that Bean could carry Cooper around. #PRIORITIES.
Plus, my phone was already half dying (on behalf of my lack of planning) so we took a few minutes to hang out, charge my phone, and snap a few silly family photos.
Bean’s mission was to see the “pig-a-lets”. We obliged with a visit to the Oink Booth, and made sure to pick up a few souvenirs on the way out.
Passersby couldn’t help but grin at how ridiculously cute Bean looked fanning herself with her pig fan while wearing her pig ears. For many days after, she insisted that we call her “pig-a-let” and that we were the mommy and daddy pigs.
We also made a stop at the Cattle Barn because, “When in Rome…” That’s how that works when you’re at a fair, right?
Our big finale in gorging our faces was with my personal favorite Minnesota State Fair food: Sweet Martha’s Cookies. 80% of the people that you see walking around the fair have a Sweet Martha’s bucket in their hands (that’s a scientific fact, jack). That’s right, they sell these by the bucket-full. We had already done a lot of eating, so we settled for the cone. My husband let me know that he had to tell the worker, “OK, yeah, that’s enough” or she would have kept piling the cookies on.
In typical Bean fashion, she managed to get just as much cookie on her face and clothes as she did in her tummy. To her credit, they were deliciously fresh and melty.
Seriously, it was so nice to be able to take a bunch of photos and post them to my social media accounts without worrying about my data limit (that’s the beauty of a prepaid wireless service). We used to be on a family plan with my parents and I was always so afraid of going over the limit. Plus, this phone is on the AT&T network so I never had to worry about finding a strong signal. Pre-paid phones have come a long way, people!
