I am currently navigating the journey from a full head of platinum blonde hair towards something with a little less maintenance. When you’re transitioning from hair color that’s really solid towards a more “natural” color, straight hair is pretty much out of the picture (hello, roots). In order to help blur the regrowth line, I like to use 2 techniques: a wavy hair tutorial and a miracle product known as Root Blurâ„¢ Colour Blending Concealer.
This wavy hair tutorial is perfect for long or short hairstyles. All you need is a curling iron or wand!

STEP ONE

While your curling iron or wand is preheating, spray your entire head with thermal styling spray. It not only protects your hair from heat damage, it also helps hold your style WAY longer. Brush through after it dries.

STEP TWO

Divide your head in half and, working in inch wide sections, wrap your hair around the iron leaving the ends out.
By the front hairline and in the top section of the hair, I like to wrap back away from the face.
Around the interior sections of the head, wrap the hair around the iron going towards your face. Remember to leave the ends out. Continue wrapping the hair around the iron until all of your hair is curled.

STEP THREE

Once you have let your hair cool, finger comb through the waves. Finger combing releases the waves in a natural way without relaxing them too much. If you brush or comb through the hair while it’s still hot, you might relax the waves too much resulting in flat hair.

STEP FOUR

If you’ve got root issues going on like I do now, it’s time for Root Blurâ„¢ Colour Blending Concealer. I used the Honey to Caramel For Medium to Dark Blonde so that I could work with both my highlights and lowlight color. It covers my dark roots with a natural look plus it lasts until the next shampoo.
Using the brush provided, blur the highlights and lowlights into the regrowth area down the part, hairline, and through the crown of the head. It gives just enough dimension to break up the harsh line of regrowth without it looking fake.

STEP FIVE

Finish and set the look with an aerosol hairspray. You’re done!
This is my go to look because it’s not only easy but I can wear it with second day hair. I have to say, I am teetering on the border of going back to full-on platinum (I miss it) but this Root Blur product is helping ease my regrowth anxiety 😉
If you’re transitioning between colors, or if you’re trying to stretch out the time between salon visits, John Frieda Root Blurâ„¢ Colour Blending Concealer helps blend blondes, browns, and everything in between. Plus, when you purchase 3 John Frieda products at Target, you get a $5 gift card! Products can be found on an endcap display until 3/5.
