Say what? Two project posts in one week? Heck yes. And with a crabby toddler, even. Booyah.
This one is brought to you by the amazing people at Darice.
This is what the lamp used to look like. The lamp shade was broken. And it cost me a whopping…
You read that right. 51 cents. On sale. Boom.
I originally made a shade with the 6 rowΒ Bling on a Roll, but I ended up scrapping that for 18 rows. This stuff is super easy to use, you can literally cut it to fit any shape you want.
The first thing I did was give the lamp a coat of primer to cover the zebra stripes and then a few coats of acrylic paint. I finished it off with a coat of gloss Mod Podge.
Next I deconstructed the lamp shade. Knowing that it would be much easier to put the bling on a shade that was the same width at the top and bottom, I made my own top using the original, a wire hanger, and floral wire. I wrapped the entire thing in electrical tape to secure (only tape I had on hand.)
The shade itself I made out of vellum. Unfortunately it only came in 12″ and I needed longer, so I just connected two pieces with adhesive (I knew the bling would cover up the seam anyways.)
Glue the vellum to the base of the lamp shade with hot glue. Repeat the process with the top.
Start by attaching a row of bling with a hot glue gun to the vellum shade.
Attach a 2nd row to the bottom of the lamp shade.
I filled in the center of the shade with the 2 row bling on a roll. I didn’t want to worry about the 2Β separateΒ pieces of 18 row bling lining up perfectly which is why I put the 2 row in the middle.
And here she is, with the light off and on. Not bad for a 50 cent lamp, eh?

  3. I love using this on a lampshade! And you did a great job constructing a new shade… I'd probably go the lazy route and just buy a new one. πŸ˜‰
