How to DIY a Countertop Coffee Bar at Home

Wondering how you can DIY your own countertop coffee bar at home? It’s easy with these tips!

When you’re into coffee, your coffee maker is a staple in your kitchen.

When you’re, like, REALLY into coffee you have a coffee bar in your kitchen.

I put together a small countertop coffee bar in my kitchen recently using thrift store items that I gave a makeover.

If you’ve been wanting an at home coffee bar, keep reading for my tips on how you can customize one for yourself!

What coffee maker should I use?

Obviously, your coffee maker of choice will be priority number one for assembling your coffee bar.

Whether it’s a Keurig or a drip or a french press, the coffee maker is the star of the show.

If you don’t already own a coffee maker, or you’re looking to upgrade the one you do have, do a little research before you buy.

I’m personally in love with my thermal coffee maker. I like my coffee super hot, and mine keeps it warm without burning it and making it taste bitter.

Plus, it brews pretty darn fast.

How should I store my coffee grounds?

There are a few non-negotiables when it comes to keeping coffee grounds (and beans) fresh and tasting their best.

Make sure your container is…

  1. Opaque
  2. Air tight
  3. Away from heat, direct sunlight, and moisture

Mine is actually a ceramic thrift store canister that I found and gave a little makeover.

You’ll be able to see the full before and after on the blog soon!

How do I organize my coffee mugs?

There are lots of convenient ways to organize and display your coffee mugs:

I, personally, love to collect coffee mugs so I have WAY more than I would ever need. Especially since I’m the only coffee drinker in our house.

Because I’m what I like to refer to as a “wannabe minimalist”, I keep 4 mugs on another thrift store find that got a makeover (see the full tutorial here).

Once I cycle through those, I put new ones on the tree so I’m always using different mugs.

What else should I add to my coffee bar?

This is all about personal coffee needs, and your tolerance for and definition of what you consider “clutter”.

I prefer my decor to be minimal and my coffee to be black, so my needs for a coffee bar were pretty simple.

  • coffee maker… check!
  • a place to store my coffee… check!
  • something to hold my mugs… check!
  • a sassy sign to bring it all together… check!

Anything else you want to add is completely up to you.
