Halloween Costume DIY: Peppermint Butler Clutch

2019 Update: This “tutorial” was written waaaay back in 2012 before anyone (me) understood the importance of photography, being detailed in your tutorials, or overall the right way to blog. It was the wild west, and I miss it so.

I don’t know if you have experienced the subtle hilarity that is Adventure Time on the Cartoon Network, and if you haven’t you MUST watch. Anywho…

My hubby and I always try to do some sort of “couples” costume for Halloween. This year we decided upon Finn the Human and Princess Bubblegum (from Adventure Time, of course).

Being the stubborn DIYer that I am, I took it upon myself to single-handedly construct/put together both of our costumes.

I’m not going to go into detail with this post, but I wanted to share with you my first of many completed projects for our Halloween costumes.

In the show, Princess Bubblegum has a butler (Peppermint Butler, to be exact) so I decided to make him into a little clutch instead of carrying around my gigantic, heavy purse.

He started as a cheap CD holder that I found at a thrift store.

All I did was layer a few felt pieces, and viola! Really, it wasn’t that complicated that I need to go into detail. Cut and glue, that’s the magic of the hot glue gun 🙂

I think he will serve his purpose awesomely. He’s the perfect size to fit an ID, cash, camera, and a little lip gloss 🙂

Stay tuned to see more of my Halloween costume projects! Oh, and make sure to check back tomorrow for a BRAND NEW GFC link up, going live at 7:00 PM 🙂

  1. I haven't quite ventured to making my own costumes, still at the little crafts. A new-ish momma and still learning the ropes on crafting kid-friendly items. I would love for you to come and link up to my Empowered Living Tuesday blog hop. Crafts always welcome for the readers and for me 🙂 Am following you now and looking forward to your posts.
